How to say no to the pressure of spending
- August 5, 2014
It may very well be possible that a major reason why you’re in debt is due to your spending habits. If you’re one of these people, then this will outline some the habits you may be feeling and how to slowly try to get rid of them so that you can start saving money, instead of spending it.
This is going to be the “last time”, if you find yourself using this excuse when you feel pressured to spend, you have to acknowledge that you’re doing this and do your best to stop. The best thing you can do is sit down and come up with some kind of budget for yourself and stick to it. If you immediately start this approach and go cold turkey it is the only way you will break this habit.
Taking a break from social events, this one is tough for most people because our social lives are our way of freedom from not only work, but from whatever else is going on in our lives. It’s okay to take a step back and not spend money constantly with your friends. This doesn’t mean that you have to stay home and do nothing but try to look for more budget appropriate activities for you and your friends or family.
Making choices grounded on fear, some people find themselves incredibly nervous about feeling left out and being set a part from everyone else. The idea to keep in mind is that everyone has a spending limit, some more than others, but you would be surprised at how many people that you’re close to want to save money as well. If you let people know that you can’t spend a lot of money on something, they are more than likely going to be understanding.
Avoiding the problem, the best thing you can do is be honest with yourself and quit making excuses. Once you tell the people in your life that you can’t spend as much money anymore, you have to come to terms with that as well. Once you get into the habit of saving your money, it will get easier to budget and you will be able to start treating yourself once in a while. If you sit down and go over your finances and realize what your spending is doing, then it will be more motivation to stop spending as much.
